DoCoMo phone uses facial recognition.

Leading Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo will this week introduce the first in a portfolio of devices that are serious about security.
The P903i 3G FOMA phone, which is manufactured by Panasonic and becomes available on Wednesday, is accompanied by a small, flat black card, which acts as a proximity security token.
If the handset moves too far away from the token, the handset will lock up, making it inaccessible to potential thieves.
But that is not the most interesting feature of the device. The P903i also claims to have a facial recognition feature, which, when combined with a pin code, can make the device unusable by all except the real owner.

Is Orange’s ‘Unique’ compelling?

Source: Telecoms.com.

Orange is set to become the first UK mobile operator to launch an FMC service when it introduces its so-called Unique product on November 1. There are doubts, however, about whether the initial offering will be compelling enough to generate significant take-up.
Unique phone will enable Orange’s customers, for a monthly fee, to make unlimited calls to landlines and other Orange mobiles at any time while at home.
The service works over Wi-Fi via the operator’s Livebox modem. Outside the home, the phone operates over Orange’s mobile network.
It seems unlikely, however, that the pricing scheme will be striking enough to attract large numbers of customers. For a start, a charge of at least £50 a month is getting close to the upper end of the consumer-tariff scale.

The exit of Herr Geitner came as Vodafone unveiled a U-turn, closing its “new businesses” unit only six months after it was launched. Analysts said that the changes suggested confusion in the group about its efforts to tackle slowing growth and cut costs by expanding into broadband and other services and restructuring management.
